Goodbye and Hello!

Another full year has come and gone. As I write this, there are one and almost a half day of 2018 left.

The past 12 months have been full of much hard work and achievement and pain and sorrow. I will complete my 54th year of living in 2019. To some, that is a long number of years, and for others too short — depending on one’s own perspective at the moment in time.

Regardless of the years gone by there remains a constant reminder: That time is on our side if we use it correctly. And by correctly, I appreciate that what is correct is inherently up to us individually to decide. There are the basic concepts of being a good citizen and neighbor, etc.

Still, we are each one of us as unique as the stars in the sky.

Each of us has something within which if illuminated shines brightly for all to see. It may be that in our circumstances only a few will see that light. Or, maybe our light extends to multitudes. Whatever it is the important thing, nigh the correct thing is that we shine.

I am grateful there are individuals in my life who will fight for me. That there are those who want me to succeed and so provide the resources I need to do so. I’m not politically or militarily savvy, yet there are those who represent me and work hard each day to ensure my rights as a human are intact. I am grateful for these men and women.

There are people I know well over the years, this handful I call my friends. And, I am grateful they see in me something worth holding on to. True friends are so necessary in our lives. They keep us grounded and often safeguard us from our own stupidity. Speaking personally.

And, I am grateful for the love of a woman who completed another year by my side. As we continue in our 6th year of marriage, I’m seeing more and more the truth in the adage “good things come to those who wait”.

We cannot change the past. What we can do now and as long as we live is to make better decisions each day which create paths to bright futures.

Goodbye 2018 and hello 2019.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you.
