It’s the Little Things… that add up to a pile of something
Some time ago, a work friend of mine made the point “it’s the little things that matter.” Attention to detail — or not, seems to stand out in the long run.
It may seem trivial, but these “little things” add up. I’m fortunate to work with a group of folks who have my back. That’s not so common anymore. More and more folks are looking out for number one — themselves, which isn’t always conducive to positive relationships.
I figure the better alternative is to work at stressing the positive. If the negative little things add up, then the same is true of the positives right?
A huge mound of something
Yep, the little positive things add up to a huge mound of goodness.
All those little negative things add up to a huge mound of, well… you get the point.
It seems our human nature is to focus more on the negative little things and not all those positive little things. I know this is my problem and for this I propose a plan and I will start with my work situation.
For the next 30 days, I’m making a mental and written note of all the little positive things I do at work (I’ll do outside of work later). It’s already on my Outlook calendar as a daily reminder. It could be as simple as pouring a cup-a Java for a colleague or giving up a seat for a meeting latecomer, whatever — if its positive, I will note it and at the end of the 30 days, I will check it. I won’t write any of the negative little things, only the positive.
I want to see where this puts me. How this affects my outlook and more my output. Once I complete my little experiment, I’ll write a little snippet to report out. Should be fun… wish me luck!
How about you? What can you do to bring more positivity into your life?
