She hates herself because she’s devalued from the moment she comes into the world due to the color of her skin. She sees things the way man see things. Yet, the way man sees is not the way God sees. The Creator values all of his handiwork.
They are wonderful.
We marvel at the industriousness of the ant and enraptured by the playful maneuvering of the hummingbird. There is respect and fear at the power and majesty of the Lion. What about the sustaining earth which brings forth food for our bodies? Yet, we are so inept as to devalue the most incredible of all of God’s creations, another human being. And this, because they’re just a little different from us.
We are the grandest creation of God. The guardians of the earth.
We’ve had thousands of years to get it right. Still, we struggle. What is it that disables humankind from achieving long-lasting peace, unity and happiness? Where does the hate for oneself and for those who differ from us come from? Why would a black girl look in the mirror and hate herself? Who taught her this?
There is an evil that exists. Whether it be in the spirit of the air or deep in our hearts, it is there. All humans can love, and all can be evil. Our circumstances and decisions determine which quality will dominate our lives. We can come from the most unfortunate of circumstances and do good things. Or, come from the most fortunate of situations and choose the bad way in our life. These decisions are ours to make. Still, no matter our choices it doesn’t make what God made any less valuable.
Every one of us unique in ourselves. We are special in the way God designed us.
When we look in the mirror, let’s see ourselves the way God sees us.
We are wonderful.
