You are more resilient than you think.
How do I know this? Because I’ve lived enough decades to see how life unfolds.
Life ain’t always pretty. In fact, sometimes it’s downright ugly.
Life will test you. It will chew you up and spit you out.
But in the words of one Rocky Balboa: “It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”
And that “moving forward” is what we call resilience.
The American Association of Psychology (APA) Dictionary of Psychology defines resilience as: “… the process and outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences, especially through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility and adjustment to external and internal demands.” https://dictionary.apa.org/
Life throws it all at us. Loss, betrayal, rejection, shame to name just a handful. And these moments can shake your confidence and make you question your worth.
But here’s the truth: Resilience isn’t just bouncing back. It’s bouncing forward.
It’s the superpower that turns adversity into growth, and pain into purpose.
How to Build Your Resilience Muscle:
If you feel knocked down, reframe the Story: Ask “What can I learn?” instead of “Why me?”
Strengthen Your Inner Dialogue: Replace self-criticism with truths. Speak truth to power: “I’ve overcome before. I will again.”
Find Your People: Surround yourself with those who challenge and lift you.
Stay Adaptable: Change is constant—flexibility fuels resilience.
The benefits?
- More confidence in uncertainty.
- Faster recovery from setbacks.
- Stronger, more empathetic relationships.
Resilience is built on one choice at a time. Today, choose the step that moves you from merely surviving… to thriving.
Your superpower is already in the making. It’s waiting for you.
